Description

AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER PROTECTION FOR MEO BUILDING The National Mine Health and Safety Academy located at 1301 Airport Road, Beaver, WV, is requesting bids for the installation of a sprinkler system in the Mine Emergency Operations (MEO) Building located on the property. This project will require the installation of a riser in the building and tapping into an 8? water line. It will be the responsibility of the contractor to furnish all labor, materials, and parts required to complete this job. It is strongly suggested that a site visit be made to the Academy before submitting a bid for this project. SCOPE OF WORK: The contractor shall design, furnish, and install one wet sprinkler for the 6,000 square-foot MEO Building located at the Academy. All work to be in accordance with plans and specifications provided by the contractor. The systems will be designed to provide an Ordinary Group I density (.15/1500 + 250-gpm hose allowance) in the warehouse/shop area. The office will be provided with a Light Hazard (.1/1500 + 100-gpm hose allowance). The contractor will tap the existing 8? line and bring a new lead into the building. Excluded is the cutting and patching of any asphalt. The sprinklers in the warehouse are to be Reliable Model F1 brass uprights with exposed piping. The sprinklers in the office space are to be Reliable Model F1FR chrome pendants in areas with lay-in tile ceilings. The engineered sprinkler drawings will be submitted to the WV State Fire Marshall for approval. Plan approval fees for the sprinkler drawings will be paid for by the contractor. All preliminary hydraulic calculations and price based upon .15 over 1500 square feet, using a static pressure of 100-psi and a residual pressure of 66-psi while flowing 1230-gpm. If available water supply is not equal to or greater than the above flow information, the building must be calculated at a higher density. The contract price may have to be adjusted accordingly. Excluded are painting of piping, electrical and alarm wiring, adequate water supply to meet the hydraulic demands of the sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers, and adequate heat to prevent freezing conditions, fire pump, and water storage tank.
